Proper shoe care is key to their longevity.
-
First rule – cleaning and drying.
Keeping shoes dry and clean is a golden rule to extend their life and ensure comfortable use.
If they are slightly dirty, you can simply shake off the dirt, remove the insole, and place them in a dry spot. However, it is highly undesirable to place shoes in direct proximity to open flames or heaters. Instead, it's better to put crumpled newspaper inside; it will gently absorb moisture without damaging the leather.
If your shoes get heavily soiled, it's better to use a soft brush and foam or simply a stream of water. Rub the dirt until the water runs clear. It's very important to pay attention to the seams, and after washing, it's best to place the shoes in a dry and warm place.
Machine washing is not recommended; it's better to use brushes for everything!
- Second rule – combating unpleasant odors.
To get rid of unpleasant odors in sneakers, you need to place a little baking soda in textile bags (or use socks) inside them or use an antifungal spray. This way, you can completely eliminate unpleasant shoe odors after prolonged use.
-
Third rule – pay attention to the material.
Shoes require special care. For this purpose, special impregnations (hydrophobic creams and sprays) are developed, which are applied to the surface according to the manufacturer's instructions and then removed with a soft cloth.
If the shoes are to be stored for a long time without use, they should be treated with impregnation twice. This measure will prevent the material from drying out and cracking. You can buy simple wax impregnations, as well as specialized, fire-resistant or water-resistant ones, depending on the shoes' application.
