For the invention of this material in 1979, the developers of Malden Mills company received the Nobel Prize.
This material was "fleece" (meaning "sheepskin") - a synthetic material, fluffy and with pile.
It was created as a replacement for natural fur. "Fleece" also effectively retains heat, and in addition, it is lightweight, "breathable," warms even when wet, and does not retain moisture in its structure.
In general, it is a family of fabrics, the main feature of which is that the threads for the fabric are "combed" (loops of threads are raised with special hooks) on special equipment, and thus the fibers are stretched and create many pile threads, which guarantee heat retention.
The quality of fleece fabric depends on the method of thread production.
There are 2 main types of threads for fleece fabrics: FDY and DTY.
- FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn). Fully drawn threads. Cheap raw materials are used in their production. This type of thread is drawn in a spinning machine in two stages using a preheating oven. Increased spinning speeds are used to obtain such fiber.
- DTY (Draw Textured Yarn). Drawn textured threads. Produced according to the scheme: twisting complex synthetic threads up to 2500-5000 twists per 1 meter, heat setting of the twisted thread, untwisting of the heat-stabilized thread. As a result, the thread gets a spiral shape, high elastic stretch, and fluffiness.
"Fleece" DTY is softer, more elastic, and more pleasant to the touch than FDY.
We use "fleece" DTY in the production of our goods.
